Impis vs. Wanderers…the Real story.

July 21st 2007. Written By Alistair Machoka

Its official, the Impis are one-minute men.
When they were good, they lasted a minute and a try. And then they got deflated, limp and soft!!! Leave to the Wandies to give meaning to the long lasting, hard, back and forth action. The way some of Dallas mafans were shrieking in pleasure after every Wanderers Try, it was obvious that they had been deprived of this much action since Hurricane Rita (when the whole of Houston relocated to Dallas)

So the Wandies traveled to Dtown after much chiding by the impis.

The Journey

It all began labor day about two years ago when the Impis (then established with a core of six players) rolled into town and gave us an ass kicking in front of the Houston crowd. Of course the return leg was as one sided as a gay love affair……...but I digress. Being tied at one game a piece, the Mavericks lovers started calling us out for ‘Game of the year’. They had to avenge the loss, they believed, and embarrass us in front of their home crowd.

And the Wandies rolled into town………almost twenty strong. ‘Shock and Awe’, somebody.

Kickoff.

Give it to the Impis chaps for rucking hard, tackling well and flowing the ball. When it worked it was beautiful and at the minute and a half mark their second center Collins scored right smack in the middle of the Wandies posts. But then again, these are the minute men. The try was converted. Impis 7, Houston 0.

The Wandies motto: Conquer and Dominate.

No sooner had they converted than the floodgates opened. A few more hard tackles from the Impis but leave it to Charlie ‘Wamunyore’ Rajuai, he of the three piece suit fame, to break tackles, sell a dummy and show a clean pair of cleats all the way to the Impis end.
Impis 7, Wanderers 7.
‘Obiso’ alias Obara not wanting to be left behind, got the ball from a clean ruck set by Mike P, Strong and Doughboy snuck through the Impis weak side and with the flight accorded to him by the almighty ‘dreads’ beat out two helpless Impis defenders for a try, less than a minute after ‘Wamunyore’ put the Wandies on board. This seemed to drive the Impis mafans nuts!! And that is all the inspiration that the Wandies needed, win the game and then ‘arrive’ on the now very eager mafans.
Impis 7, 1 Wanderers 4.

The Game

Encore!! Encore!! They demanded, and Obiso never the one to disappoint got a sweet pass from OJ, danced around a few hapless Impis and once again touched between the poles at the Dallas end.
Impis 7, Wanderers 21.
Naturally the Wandies are a very team oriented group and thus a quick decision was made that the tries have to be distributed evenly because it seemed the Impis had their eyes on Obiso and Wamunyore. Little did they know that OJ, Edward, Doughboy, Ish, Hezi just to name a few are mercenaries in their own light. By the time the game went to half time, Aleki ‘Mawilla’ Owuor had facilitated a couple of breathtaking second phase runs that resulted in one uncoverted try by Ish.

STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!........its half time.
Impis 7, Wandies 26

Second Half.

We don’t know what kind of pep talk the Impis gave at their congregation but it sure wasn’t working. Their rededicated efforts were thwarted when the Wandies unleashed a new crop of Talanta, that quickly shot the score to 40. Special mention, Deno Ndovu Ndogo whose low COG (Center of Gravity) was cause for entertainment when he pushed a whole scrum ten meters and topped it off by not only breaking a tackle, but literally carried the poor chap for a good five meters before finally gently placing him down. All this with an overlap of about three Wandies screaming for the ball. Kudos to him for realizing the entertainment aspect of Rugby.

The Joy

The scores came in plenty throughout the second half with lots of highlights and by the time the ref blew his final whistle…..

Final Score  - Impis 7, Wandies 54.

The Pain

PS: Video evidence available for purchase at $5 a copy.
The Impis get a copy free. It’s the least we can do

A good time was had by all, and the Wandies would like to thank the entire Impis organization for a game well attended by both spectators and players. The accommodation was superb including the munchies that kept some of our boys in Dallas longer than anticipated. The nightly entertainment lived to its billing and we do appreciate the time, effort and energy that it took for the Impis to organize a successful day of Rugby. In the true spirit of Rugby; eat, sleep, breathe Rugby and we shall see you at the try line!!

Players: Obara, Charlo, OJ, Aleki, Ish, Alex, Doughboy, Chris, Owens, Edward, Eriko, Hezi, Jeff, Bryo, Mike P, Ochii, Alois.

Impis Vs Wandies sum up - How They saw it

July 21st 2007 Written by Geri Agoi. Dallas Impis Club Secretary

The game starts at a very high tempo with the Impis having a upper hand at every play...the ball is run from a ruck, down to the backs and boom...the Impis score. Well celebrated by the players and fans at large. Man, this was the beginning of the story that happened on Sat, 21st 2007.

A few minutes later, we, the Impis, opened a brothel in our end zone. The Wandies ran in tries while the Impis ran out of gas. At the end of the match, the damage was done and the Impis suffered a severe defeat. The night went on fine and it was all smiles as the likes of akina Aleki gyrated to the sounds of 'ohangla' beat in celebration of the win. I'm really hot under the collar and I have every right to rant... Here are some of the comments from both camps quote on quote...

Alistair:- "Asante sana for the hospitality...U guys were such gracious hosts, u let us play unopposed...."
(by the way, we are after your neck...)

Tim:- "You now try to pick up your pride from an under achieved effort? Shame on you. The score sounds more like cricket scores..."

And many more...

Thank you Wandies for coming to North Texas...

So, the Wandies get the last laugh but not for long...revenge is coming and it will be severe...severe it will be...

A driving break at the Golden Arches

University Of Houston Alumni Tournament

April 21st 2007 Written by Brain Mogaka

The Houston Wandies came to the field today looking like rugby models, donning a new kit that cheated the opposition in thinking they were just pretty boys. The sun was hot and the game played uncharacteristically early for the Wandies, they were not able to get their composure in the game.

The first game Wandies played was with our arch nemesis Katy Barbarians, this time Pete tried a different approach by recruiting members of the USA under 19 team and putting the referee in his pocket.

The Wandies had a lack-luster performance missing the essential services of Charlo, Mike, Caleb, Mel and Owen. Katy were first to draw blood, making them lead with a try after a failed conversion. the Katy Barbarians coach Pete was elated to be able to get this far down the pitch as the Wandies backs buckled under pressure. Notable tackles on
this run can be attributed to James "komu" Kamau, who never fails to impress on the defense.

The forwards as usual were outstanding, winning ball after ball, and were instrumental in the first Wandies try. The Wandies forwards had mauled and racked the ball to the Katy Barbarian 25 and after a quick penalty taken by scrum half Cliff , the Katy barbarians were caught on their back heels as Cliff went for the try box. Second row, Oscar attempted the boot, but he would need more practice, as the ball went wide.

Katy were able to score second try after the backs failed us again, with a few missed tackles from Freddy and Alois who were cross covering for the fullback Nganga.

Alois did atone himself with several runs that made him MVP of the game in my opinion. With a try in his credit this game after a stellar run, dancing and ploughing though some tackles. Cliff scrum half was able to convert this try putting the Wandies in their favorite position: ahead.

The Katy team did score a third try and converted. This sealed Wandies fate as it was proved impossible to play with 16 men on the pitch, especially when one held the whistle. the game ended in a disappointing 17 - 12 loss to the Barbarians.

Second game played was with Stephen F Austin university team. this was also a uncharacteristically hard game for the Wandies, the game was played lacking the essential Wandies winning ingredient; motivation. The SFA team was playing for pride, and the wandies seemed to be playing to meet their engagements.

There were notable runs in this game as well with the pack doing what they do best. Oscar "Ram Rod" Owitti, did his thing, gaining yardage and hitting the SFA forwards over and over again. Erico also was impressive holding the mauls and racks, leaving the rest to reset comfortably.

First blood was drawn by Alois "LaCoach" Mbeche as he did what he knows best taking the ball from the SFA 45 yard all the way to the try box, with finesse like no other. Cliff attempted to the conversion, but with the wind against him the ball did not go through the center of the posts.

SFA to their credit did answer with a try and a conversion, after a quick hands run, which impressed all on the sidelines. They were also able to score a second try to dominate the game with the lead, but not for long. The ball was handed to Erico "Strong" Onsongo and it took several of the SFA to take him down, after some substantial yardage gain. Joseph "bust of energy" Otieno took the ball down the pitch as well, with his "miss tackle radar" on, was able to run the ball down the pitch. this completed the set piece as the ball was handed to the backs and finally to the hands of coach who made an easy try. An attempt to convert the second try came up bare as the Houston Wandies lost to SFA 12 - 17

Other games played, University of Houston beat SFA 19 - 7, the Katy Barbarians beat university of Houston 12 - 7. The University of Houston alumni were beat by the current playing team 24-12

The Vision That drives the Wandies
Written by Alois Mbeche

Houston Wanderers RFC is a club borne of a desire to provide a sporting, social, and familial environment for rugby players, fans, and family alike, who have been unable to participate in the sport because of economic challenges, time, and administrative constraints.

These inconveniences were the spark that lit the fire in former players, leading them to start a casual participation in Saturday afternoon touch rugby. These sessions would soon increase in frequency and intensity and culminate in the strong desire to compete with other rugby clubs within Houston.

We soon realized the need to play more competitive rugby and consequently we appreciate the importance of solid preparation. In order to accomplish this goal we decided to form an organizing collective, who are charged with ensuring that the club has the requisite resources to compete on the same level as other division x clubs in Texas and the US as a whole.

Atop the teams agenda is incorporation, which will provide greater leeway in seeking corporate sponsorship and recognition; the provision of career counseling, which will cater for the professional and academic advancement of club members allowing them to be more resourceful and championing social responsibility; and community service, as we realize the need to be active contributors to the improvement our host communities.

The Wanderer aspire to become a name brand outfit synonymous with quality in all their endeavors. We strive to one day have our own facilities whereby family and friends can socialize and recreate while players train, compete in or host tournaments both locally, nationally and internationally.  We aim to serve as ambassadors of the sport in influencing rugby talent from all parts of the world, to consider Houston Wanderers fraternity as a place where they can improve and blossom as players and human beings.

Ultimately we yearn to be a club that that provides the environment, training and opportunity for one to develop and achieve his/her full potential as a human being and player, become better teammate and friend and set the foundation for a successful organization that cares for its members and community with a tradition and culture that will last forever.

 Safeguard your Credit
Written by Alexander Owuor

Friends,
Your Credit is as important as your reputation. Your freinds and family may all know and trust you but potential employees and creditors have only your credit report to go by so safeguard it. It may cost your a job, a home or a dream in the future.

The best way to safegueard your credit is to start off by knowing what's on your credit report. Over the years I have learned how important it is to review my credit report regularly. You would be amazed what suprises lay in waiting for you if you haven't reviewed it in a while. Needless to say reviewing my credit has enabled me to catch and resolve potentially major issues relating to identity fraud.

You may be thinking to yourself, how much is this going to cost me? Well everywhere you go and every time you open your junk mail someone is trying to charge you to get a copy of your credit report or offering you credit protection for a fee. Did you know that by law (Fact Act) you are entitled to a free copy of your credit report every year. Yes every 12 months you can get a copy of you credit report absolutely free. In fact since there are three credit reporting agencies, you are entiled to a copy of each of these reports every 12 months.

I've known this for a while and have been getting mine for the last couple of years. As I was getting ready to do it again this year I thought I'd share it with everyone. You can obtain your free copy by either calling, sending a request letter or logging onto the websites of the respective reporting agency.

Equifax: 1-800-525-6285; www.equifax.com
Experian: 1-888-397-3742;
www.experian.com
TransUnion: 1-800-680-7289;
www.transunion.com

But wait ...... This year I started off with TransUnion and clicked on the Fact Act link on their website and voila .......  I found that they are now collaborating to make it even easier to get all three reports from one source (sortf of). Anyway here's the link to the site where you can get/order your report from all three agencies.  https://www.annualcreditreport.com

Each agency takes rigorous steps to make sure that it's actually you so be prepared and make sure you have your financial records on hand before you start. It took me no more than 15 minuites to order one and print out two reports. Safeguard your credit today. No excuses.

OK here's the legal disclaimer that the Wandies Lawyers forced me to append to my message ...... The Wandies do not work for or have any affiliation with any of the credit reporting agencies or their sister companies. This information is offered in good faith and the Wandies make no gains, monetory, mafan or otherwise when you take the bold step of reviewing and safeguarding your credit. In fact YOU will be the sole benefitiary as you will reap the resulting peace of mind that the said bold step will afford you. The Wandies cannot be held responsible for any domees, head trauma, giddiness, excessive joy, lightheadedness, marriage proposals, tantrums, anguish,  excessive crying, disconnection of cable services, purchase of bling bling, second mortgages, major purchaces, expensive cruises, purchaces or big screen TVs, returns of big screen TVs, auctioning of family land, acquisition of large tracts of land in east TX, break-ups, elopements or trips to Vegas that may result from you reviewing your credit report.

Day of the Dead Tournament in San Antonio - October 28th 2006

Game 2 - Wandies VS Sol Russ
Written by Michael Pepela

The Wanderers outclassed SOL RUSS notching a 21-7 victory in the second game of the Day of Dead Tourney in San Antonio.  Wanderers lost the services of Prop Handsome to injury (a fractured arm) early in the game but Wanderers coach-cum-player, Aloise came on in to reinforce the pack.

SOL  RUSS drew the first blood in the 5th minute when their big No.8 blocked an attempted Wanderers clearance and latched on a loose ball for a 20 yard run to score. The rest of the game belonged to the Wanderers who attacked well with ball in hand and tackled with grit on defense. The forwards bashed well upfront and supplied clean ball to the backline where plays started to gel. Efforts bore fruits in the 9th minute when fly-half Charles Rajuai burst through a half-a- gap for a touch down. The conversion was good. Openside Flanker, Michael Pepela plunged round on the right for Wanderers second try just before break, after a good run by backrow partner Alistair Omari. Rajuai kicked over the extras as Wanderers led 14-7 at halftime.

On resumption, Wanderers piled more pressure and were rewarded with a penalty try after constant infringements by SL. Rajuai converted for a 21-7 win.

MAN OF THE MATCH: There were many candidates here and it was not easy to single out. OJ combined well with Peter Kengere in the lineouts, Komu was solid at the back, Obara was lively at the base but outside center, Mel Okello gets the nod over the rest for ceaseless tackling and ball carrying. He went the most extra yards.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH: Ron, the Wanderers tall winger showed SL what a true winger is capable of doing. He ran round the defense only to touch down short of the try box but that was the individual piece of skill that lingered longest in the mind.

Wanderers: 15 Komu, 14 Myron, 13 Mel Okello, 12 Mike Obara, 11 Ron, 10 Charles Rajuai, 9 Cliff Obara, 8 OJ, 7 Mike Pepela, 6 Alistair Omari 5 Coach Aloise, 4 Mike B,
3 Aleki 2 Peter Kengere 1 Erico Strong.

The Impis Take on What went down - October 24th 2006

Back to the drawing board
Written by Gerry (Southside) Agoi

Now with all said and done, the dust has settled and aches and pains faded, its back to the drawing boards for Dallas Impis and its affiliates. A big thank you to the Houston Wanderers for the great game and party on the 21st of October, 2006. A hard hitting game that left the Dallas Impis 'wondering and wandering' around the field. The Houstonians roughed us up with their power forwards(Erico aka strong n company) and bulldozed thru the Dallas defence...these hard nosed, cheeseburger eating heavyweights ploughed their way to the Impis end zone at will...They ran hard thru open Dallas defence without any hesitation and made guys like Aleki score tries(dont trash us on the web coz we'll find you and thrash you).....The beating was hard fought but the Houston blokes had a the last laugh... It was like visiting a cheap whorehouse with discount coupons printed off you boss' computer while he's away discussing how unsuccessfull your rehab was...the adrenaline involved is great.

Big up to the Dallas side for the punishing hits we put on these 'miiros'(Komu n fellow comrades) and containing their back line to what we call a bunch of dancing stooges...I bet you they knew the real meaning of the words 'good ol' fashioned Texas sized a** kicking...The flow of the ball was brilliant thru the game and saw great options being taken to catch the defence flat footed.

Special thanks to the Wanderers, their steering committee and coaching staff for a job well done. You guys are destined for greatness. Remember, revenge is always sweet and we cant wait for the next encounter in Dallas....The after party was a five star and we look forward to hosting y'all in north Texas. Y'all will be hit with such ferocity that millenia from now the gentic codes of their offspring will wince with an admixture of pain and dread and if you`re going to play the sport of collision then collision it will be. If you`re fearful of injury then it will find you. Take this as a threat...you Houston Wanderers....be afraid, be very afraid...

Thanks
Kibui said   ..... we had a really good game, even though Eric Ombese embellished the scores a little on the wandies site. You guys were exceptional hosts, the whole affair was classy: great rugby, one serious spread and one helluva party, cheers mate!!
I can also guarantee that we do owe you one, we promise to drag our props and wingers out of the bars, we owe you literally and physically.
Again, we can't thank you guys enough except for the fact that we were a little underdressed.........have a good run in San Antonio.

Big Ups

Francois said ....... I would like to congratulate Houston Wanderers for Good opposition and hard siaks they put up. Also thank you guys for the wonderful dinner and Party.
Hospitality was great ,game good ,scores sucked but one good game deserves another.keep it up and brace u'r selves for a friendly war.cheers!!!!!!

Dallas Impies whooped by the Houston Wandies
Written by Eric Ombese AKA Strong.

Houston Wanderers once again lived up to their motto, to Conquer and Dominate during the highly awaited match against the Dallas Impies. From the kick-off the Wanderers established themselves very well, dominating in all departments from the line-outs to the racks. It took only a couple of minutes before the Wanderers got a try from Charles Rajuai, the fly-half, which was followed by a beautifully taken conversion. Many other tries followed thereafter with players namely: Alex, OJ, and Myron making a try each.

Though the Impies tried to put up a spirited challenge dishing out some good tackles; the Wanderers responded in equal fashion by giving them hard hits from the forwards. The Impies who had come to Houston riding high in their past glory were shy in making any tries. They were actually unable to respond to the tries made by the Wandies. After the game, Agoi, the most vocal member of the Impies, tried to put on a brave face saying that the team was only used to playing sevens rugby.

True to the saying  that rugby is a hooligans’ game played by gentlemen, the post game dinner was the place to be on Saturday night. The club hosted both its fans and competitors to a sumptuous dinner immediately after the game. Everyone who attended can confess it was a lovely party. The sharp dress code was strictly adhered to, bringing out the best in both the ladies and gentlemen in attendance.

The spotlight has now been turned to the San Antonio Rugby Tournament on 10/28/06. The Wanderers look forward to further their conquest and dominance of the Texas rugby scene in the upcoming tournament. Fans are welcomed to come and witness how the club is going to trample its’ competitors.

Dallas Impies come to town this weekend for the long awaited clash with the Wanderers

During a recent trip to Dallas to check out the Cow Town Rugby tournament we met a few of the Dallas Impies. As you can see they were pretty intimidated by us even through the third one from the right (Gerald) tried to put on a brave face.

We look forward to hosting these fine gentlemen, the rest of their team and all their Dallas fans for a weekend of fun and action.

Three new Wanderers.

The last couple of months have been highlighted by an influx of new little Wanderers. Congratulations Godu, Owen and Coach.

Practice sessions to begin a little earlier as winter creeps closer.
As winter grow nearer, darkness falls earlier and earlier so to beat this we will be starting our weekday practice sessions at 6:00 and our Saturday sessions at 4:00 pm. As someone famous once said "It gets late early nowadays so beat the darkness and be early" .
